How to Do the Reclined Breastfeeding Position

Did you know there’s a breastfeeding position that will have you feeling like a breastfeeding wizard?

Behold, the magical reclined breastfeeding position!

This baby-feeding sorcery lets you recline and unwind while your mini-me nurses away.

The reclined breastfeeding position is like a fancy lounge chair for nursing.

Also known as the laid-back breastfeeding position, this position not only keeps you comfy but can also reduce soreness and help your baby latch on like a champ.

Step 1 in The Reclined Breastfeeding Position: Get Comfortable

The first step to successfully breastfeeding in the reclined position is to get comfortable. Find a quiet, relaxing spot where you can lie back comfortably with your baby. You can use a breastfeeding pillow or a few regular pillows to support your back and head.

It’s important to note that the reclined breastfeeding position may not be comfortable for all mothers, especially those who have had a cesarean section or other medical conditions. If you are experiencing any pain or discomfort while in this position, it’s best to try a different position or consult with a lactation consultant.

Step 2 - Position Your Baby

Once you're feeling like the Queen of Relaxation, it's time to position your baby for the ultimate feeding experience. Lie back and let your little bundle of joy rest on your chest, head near your breast. Then let gravity work its boobalicious magic as your baby finds your nipple like a tiny mountain climber.

Baby’s head should be positioned near your breast, with their nose in line with your nipple.

As you lie back, gravity will help your baby move towards your breast. Your baby will instinctively start to search for your nipple, so you don’t need to worry too much about guiding them. However, you can gently guide your baby’s head towards your breast if needed.

It’s important to note that your baby’s body should be in line with yours, rather than perpendicular. This will help them maintain a good latch and avoid any strain on your back and shoulders.

Step 3 - Feed Baby!

Once your baby is in position, you can start to breastfeed. The reclined breastfeeding position allows your baby to use their natural feeding reflexes to latch on and feed. Your baby’s head should be tilted slightly back, and their chin should be touching your breast.

As your baby latches on, you may need to adjust your breast to make sure they have a good latch. Make sure your baby's mouth is wide open like they're singing an opera and they're latched on to as much of the areola as possible.

Once they've got a good latch, it's time to sit back and let the milk flow!

Breastfeeding in the reclined position can take some practice, but with a little patience and the right technique, you'll be chillin' and spillin' milk like a pro.

And if you're a newbie to the game, don't be shy about taking a breastfeeding class. Trust us, it's a boob game changer!
